What are Dental Bridges?
A dental bridge is a custom-made prosthetic device used to replace missing teeth. As the name suggests, it literally ‘bridges’ the gap created by one or more missing teeth. They consist of one or more artificial teeth, called pontics, which are held in place by dental crowns on either side. These crowns are anchored to adjacent teeth or implants, thus creating a bridge over the gap left by missing teeth.
Apart from improving the aesthetics of your smile, dental bridges can also improve the functionality of your bite, and clarity of speech.
The Process for Dental Bridges Near Ivanhoe Clinic
The procedure usually involves a couple of visits over 2 to 3 weeks: the first visit is to prepare the anchoring teeth and create an impression for the bridge, and the second one is to place and adjust the custom-made bridge to perfection. Here is an overview of what you can expect:
Your First Visit:
Assessment: Our experienced dental team will conduct a thorough examination of your oral health to determine your suitability for dental bridges. We’ll discuss your specific needs and concerns, ensuring we understand your unique situation.
Customization: If dental bridges are the right solution for you, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan. We will also answer any questions that you might have about your treatment.
Tooth Preparation: To prepare for the bridge placement, the adjacent teeth will be gently reshaped to accommodate your new dental bridge.
Pre-Fabrication Mould: Impressions will be taken to guide the creation of your custom bridge. These will be sent to our dental laboratory, which will fabricate your custom bridges tailored to the exact size, shape and colour that you require. We may provide you with a temporary bridge, to seal the gap until your next visit.
Your Second Visit:
Placement: Once your custom dental bridge is ready in around 2 – 3 weeks, we’ll schedule a fitting appointment. During this visit, we ensure that the bridge fits perfectly and comfortably. Adjustments are made as necessary to guarantee optimal function and aesthetics
